When news of a open day filtered through the collectors grapevine, we couldn’t resist calling Richard to see if was true, to our delight it was and would be held on the Saturday after the National Glass fair at Gaydon so it would mean two weekends away but well worth it. Due to uncontrollable factors it had been some time since the last Open Day so it made this one extra special, a last minuet decision to stay the Friday night before in a local Hotel was made due to the bad traffic on the M42 nearly making us late for the last one and my impatience waiting for Sue to get ready to leave for the very early set off seem to make the hotel stay a good idea. Holding the event at the Broadfield House glass Museum was another bonus it gave collectors the chance to look round the amazing exhibits from other glass makers past and present a very suitable venue for Okra’s open day. When we arrived I asked Richard would it be possible to Photograph the displays for the web site it was only when we arrived back home and looked through the photos did we realize just how many stunning pieces Richard and the team had made especially for the day, the room filled very quickly with eager collectors so it soon became impossible to see the whole collection together and at one point virtually impossible to move at all such was the attendance. It was my intention to update the site with these photos over Christmas but spare time just seemed to disappeared but better late than never. |
